Printing Plants on Fabric
Difficulty: Beginner
Saturday, September 16, 2023
Workshop #1: 9:30am-noon
Workshop #2: 1pm-3:30pm
HCAC
Taught by Pat Holobaugh
Course Overview
Choose your favorite time for the workshop: morning or afternoon. Both sessions will be the same.
The plants, leaves, vines around us have wonderful details that we often don’t notice. When you roll ink onto plant materials and then press them onto fabric, you will see fine details and create unique pieces. The techniques are easy to learn and will spark ideas about future projects.
You will start your workshop using muslin, and then move on to fabrics that you bring to class. Options include silk or cotton shirts, cotton totes, scarves, baby clothes, etc. This is a great place to give new life to stained damask napkins, aprons, dish towels – cover those stains with a leaf or a fern! Back at home you will heat set your fabrics so they can be laundered.
You will bring leaves, ferns, and vines to class, plus whatever special fabrics you would like to print. More leaves and fabric will be provided. As part of the workshop, you’ll receive a silk scarf so you can take home your own masterpiece. All other supplies are included in your workshop fee. Detailed information will be sent to participants before the workshop.
Maximum number of participants: 15 in each session
Student Requirements
No experience required. Just bring fabric you’d like to print (though some will be supplied).
