Reverse Drafting — An Exercise in Well-Intentioned Destruction
Emily Winter

Reverse drafting is the process of unraveling woven cloth and diagramming its construction on graph paper using draft notation. It’s a great way to get to know weave structure. Puzzle lovers of all stripes (weaver or not) get a kick out of the process. It’s kind of like a material sudoku. In this program, Emily Winter from The Weaving Mill in Chicago will lead participants through the process of reverse drafting using provided swatches, and introduce the process of deducing threading, tie-up and treadling from drawdowns.

The Nettle Dress
A film by Dylan Howitt
View anytime between 12 noon to 12 midnight, online only (Vimeo link will be sent out the morning of Dec 2)
Textile artist Allan Brown spends seven years making a dress by hand just from the fibre of locally foraged stinging nettles. This is “hedgerow couture,” the greenest of slow fashion and also his medicine. It’s how he survives the death of his wife and finds a beautiful way to honour her. A modern-day fairytale and hymn to the healing power of nature and slow craft.
A feature documentary by Dylan Howett. 68 minutes | UK | 2023
Following the film will be a 30 minute pre-recorded Q&A with Allan Brown and Dylan Howitt.
